Who We Are

Only Kindness Rescue is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit, no-kill, all volunteer organization whose focus is on the overlooked, underserved and at-risk companion animals.

What makes us unique is that we don’t just rescue, foster, and adopt. We’re determined to go above and beyond to save lives, work to change policies to improve the treatment of animals throughout our community, and guide the next generation to make the world a kinder place for animals.

We provide humane education regarding kindness to animals, responsible pet care and the importance of treating people, animals and the environment with kindness and respect. In partnership with William Paterson University, our Pioneer Paws program educates and engages WPU students to volunteer and advocate for animal welfare. We currently host Zoom Paw Calls with special guest speakers, field trips and workshops on animal welfare protection.

Only Kindness Rescue has been instrumental throughout northern New Jersey in developing municipal ordinances to support and create TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) programs to help care for community cats and reduce the homeless overpopulation.

“What About Me?” is our endeavor to raise awareness of the need for pet friendly domestic violence shelters, and to raise funds to help provide options for victims of domestic violence to leave their abusers without having to give up their pets or leave them behind in danger.

Only Kindness Rescue has been recognized for their commitment and dedication to rescuing and helping homeless animals and bringing awareness of the need for protection of pets of domestic violence victims with Proclamations by the Essex County Executive, Freeholders and eight Mayors in Essex County declaring October 20 as Pets of Domestic Violence Awareness Day.

We are making a difference in the lives of homeless pets, but we need more volunteers to fill positions vital to the continued success of Only Kindness Rescue. Please consider becoming a foster parent, adoption event coordinator, fundraiser or board member!
